What is ThePowerLab?

ThePowerLab is a community incubator and co-working suite in the heart of Southwest Yonkers. We provide space and resources for local entrepreneurs and leaders to help take their projects and businesses to the next level, with the goal of revitalizing Southwest Yonkers.

ThePowerLab offers memberships that provide access to office/workspace, meeting spaces, events, workshops, trainings, and individualized business/project assistance.

ThePowerLab is a project by CGDC, A community organization aimed at transforming Southwest Yonkers through urban planning and community leadership development.

Start-up businesses, cooperatives, non-profits, and local freelancers will soon be able to look to ThePowerLab for access to affordable workspace scaled to their needs, technical support for their businesses and projects, and the opportunity to be a part of a diverse and powerful community of innovators. In addition to providing workspace, ThePowerLab will partner with local agencies to host workshops and courses for community members on a variety of topics including business planning, leadership development, financial literacy, and organizational management. ThePowerLab offers a structured environment for promoting community growth as a solution to poverty and unemployment, in contrast to traditional job development programs.

We are also working on creating a fund to subsidize the cost of membership for low-income community members, so that affordability is not a barrier for community members with promising projects or ideas. The Elias Foundation has already sponsored 2 suites that will house a cohort of community leaders as the build their projects and organizations from the ground up.

The Highland Hill Project

The Highland Hill Project is a community planning project launched by CGDC in the wake of the #FreeSchool19 campaign. Through training youth to canvass the community of Highland Hill, CGDCNY was able to develop a needs assessment, with the goal of releasing a comprehensive neighborhood plan for Southwest Yonkers. One of the most prominent needs identified by the project was the lack of economic opportunity in our communities. 1 in 3 residents of Southwest Yonkers live under the poverty line. ThePowerLab project is designed an innovative way to address that problem.

The Facility

ThePowerLab is a 2,700 square foot community facility, located at 45 Ludlow Street, that features two open Co-Working areas that will allow for up to 60 people to access shared space, four offices, two bathrooms, a kitchen, café, reception area, and lounge.

What You're Helping (Updated)

Although we still have major material and equipment needs, the majority of funds raised will be allocated to creating a subsidized membership program for community members who have great ideas for businesses, but lack the resources to afford membership.
